1. Who we are
CompHunter (“we”, “us”) is an independent competition-listings aggregator based in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described below and handle it in line with UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
2. What we collect
- Account data: your email address, an optional display name, and a securely hashed password.
- Preferences: your favourited competitions and your reminder choices (email / push), which are off by default.
- Push tokens: if you install the app and opt in, a device push token so we can send reminders you requested.
- Vendor data: for competition site owners, the business and billing details needed to operate your account (payment card details are handled by Stripe, not stored by us).
- Usage signals: aggregate, non-identifying counts such as listing impressions and outbound clicks.
3. How we use it
We use your data to provide your account, save your favourites, send only the reminders you have explicitly opted into, process vendor subscriptions, and keep the service secure and working. We do not sell your personal data. We never send marketing emails or push notifications unless you have opted in, and you can opt out at any time.
4. Cookies & local storage
We use a strictly necessary session cookie to keep you logged in, and your browser's local storage to remember your 18+ confirmation, your favourites and your cookie choice. With your consent, we also set a single first-party analytics cookie — an anonymous random id (no name, email or IP) — so we can count visitor numbers and improve the site. It stores no personal data and is never used for advertising or cross-site tracking. This analytics cookie is only set after you choose Accept in our cookie banner; you can change your choice at any time using Manage cookies in the footer. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
5. Sharing & processors
We share data only with the processors that run the service — for example Stripe (payments), our email provider (reminders you opted into) and our hosting provider. When you click through to a vendor, you leave CompHunter and the vendor's own privacy policy applies.
6. Retention
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your account page, which permanently removes your profile, favourites, reminders and push tokens.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email privacy@comphunter.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
